Serving for the game TECHNICAL SECRETS icon TECHNICAL SECRETS
OUR TIP: WATCH THE BALL SPINNING IN THE AIR UNTIL YOUR RACKET HITS THE BALL.
The fact that one gets two chances on the serve finds its origin in the history of the game of tennis. Originally tennis was a gentleman game, popular with French royals during the 16 the century and refined by English gentlemen during the 19th century. One initiated the game by serving from below the shoulder to get the action going. If the ball touched the net (fi-let) or out it was considered as disturbing for the opponent and a second serve was requested. Later on serving became a stroke with the intention of creating difficulty for the opponent; serving from above shoulder height, surprising the other party, get him out of balance.
